stan fast bowler Mohammad Asif has been named as the Cricket World® Player Of The Week after he capped his return to the Test side with nine wickets in Pakistan's convincing second-Test victory over New Zealand.
Asif, who has recently returned from a one-year drugs ban, took eight wickets in the first Test in Dunedin, which New Zealand won by 32 runs but he bettered that performance as his side levelled the series in Wellington. He took four for 40 as the home side were bowled out for 99 and then five for 67 as Pakistan sealed a 141-run win.
Asif made his return to international cricket in the Champions Trophy, when Pakistan reached the semi-finals but was barred from entering the UAE for his side's recent ODI and Twenty20 series against New Zealand in the Emirates and this week's performance went some way to showing how much he was missed.
Other contenders for this week's award were Indians Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan and West Indians Dwayne Bravo and Sulieman Benn
